In the village of Saint-Pierre-d’Alvey (less than 300 inhabitants), the story of the Virgin of Mont Châtel is a soap opera with many twists and turns. The erection, by individuals, of the 3.6 meter high statue in 2014, without authorization, on a communal land lost above the forest, at an altitude of 834 m, had led to the reaction of a group of opponents who demand their removal in the name of the law of 1905 , on the separation of Church and State.
