A part of the swarm of shooting stars of the Lyrids falls above our heads and until the end of April.
A shooting star rain is expected in April 2022, with a peak expected on Friday the 22nd. These are the Lyrids, a swarm of meteors whose radiant is located in the constellation of Lyra.
The phenomenon will be observable in France and in the Lyon region. But raise your head well and prepare your observation session, the rain of shooting stars will not be visible from anywhere.
20 meteors per hour visible to the naked eye
In 2022, the Lyrid meteor shower will be observable from April 16 to 25. However, the event will peak around April 22, when there may be nearly 20 meteors per hour.
The phenomenon will be visible to the naked eye, no need for a telescope or specific equipment. The meteors are to be observed preferably at the beginning of the night, that is to say from 9:30 p.m. To optimize your chances of seeing as many shooting stars as possible, go to a quiet, open place far from any light pollution.
Get away from the metropolis of Lyon
If you live in the Lyon region, you must therefore get away from the center of Lyon and its light pollution caused by buildings and streets, points out Romain Weber of Lyon Météo.
The phenomenon will be especially observable from the Monts d’Ornorth-west of Lyon (Albigny-sur-Saône, Champagne-au-Mont-d’Or, Chasselay Collonges-au-Mont-d’Or, Couzon-au-Mont-d’Or Curis-au-Mont- d’Or, Limonest, Lissieu, etc.), the Monts du Lyonnais and in Beaujolais.
It is recommended to move away from about fifty kilometers from the heart of the metropolis of Lyon.
