Game news Xbox Game Pass: Rumors about Microsoft’s Netflix family subscription are gaining momentum
Towards the very end of March, the two manufacturers, Microsoft and Sony, fought a battle through the media. On the one hand, the Japanese company was trying to respond to Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass by restructuring its PlayStation Plus offer. On the other, the American giant did not reveal anything, but was preparing in the shadows its next adjustment for its subscription system to the rich catalog of games. The new idea of the Redmond firm? Propose an offer that will delight the whole family!
- Towards a multi-Game Pass?
- An announcement this summer, and a launch at the end of the year?
Towards a multi-Game Pass?
Even though nothing has been formalized from Microsoft, a rumor has revealed the next blow that the American giant is about to bring to its competitor on the other side of the Pacific. Because yes, there is not only the PlayStation Plus which aims to get a makeover since the Xbox Game Pass could also have a new offer that would be aimed at all households interested in Microsoft’s subscription. As the WindowsCentral site mentioned a few days ago, the Redmond firm is considering a family formula which would allow several members of the same household to benefit from several accounts on a single subscription.
With this new strategy in mind, Microsoft and the Xbox Game Pass are in tune with the formulas already offered by other industry leaders, such as Netflix, Disney +, Spotify or Big N, in terms of video games, with its Nintendo Switch Online subscription. As a reminder, the big boss of the Xbox branch and current head of Xbox Game Studios, Phil Spencer, had already indicated that such a track was being explored internally, without giving more details. Today, the rumor is becoming clearer because it is corroborated by another journalist, close to the files on which Microsoft is working.
An announcement this summer, and a launch at the end of the year?
As he mentioned last week, the development of a more compact and efficient chip for the Xbox Series XBrad Sams returned to the charge by adding his little grain of salt around a hot file from Microsoft: the addition of a Family formula for his Xbox Game Pass, thus allowing up to five people from the same household to be added to a single subscription. According to the journalist who officiates for the media Thurrott, information from Jez Corden of WindowsCentral on this new formula would be proven, and Microsoft would think carefully about launching this offer soon.
The journalist does not manage to say, with certainty, when this subscription could arrive on the market because, internally, the timing of the announcement could have been reviewed. Today, the rumor is gaining weight, and it wouldn’t be surprising if all of this was formalized in due form during the period of E3 – if indeed we can still call it that despite the cancellation of the show — for marketing by the end of 2022. All you have to do is be patient to find out, or not, all this!
